The column is here for one reason: it is two and a quarter hours from Craiova and the July gap is the argument for the drive. Source: Open-Meteo — CERRA regional reanalysis 1991–2020 (Copernicus)

Good weather for a day outOltenia, with every distance measured →Târgu Jiu and the Brâncuși ensemble, Horezu, Tismana, Segarcea and the Danube — how far each one really is, and what we could and could not verify.

March is where the Craiova year turns. Sunshine goes from 141 hours in February to 207, highs reach about 12 °C, and the plain stops being grey. It happens fast — the first warm week usually arrives in the second half of the month and the terraces on Calea Unirii put their chairs out within days of it.

Romanescu is the place to watch it happen. The park's valley wakes earlier than the streets do, and by the end of March the Botanical Garden is worth a visit on its own merits rather than as shelter.

Prices are still at winter levels and the city is still quiet, which makes March the sweet spot for anyone who does not need guaranteed warmth. The one caveat is that it is genuinely unpredictable: a March week here can deliver 20 °C or sleet, and there is no way to know in advance.
