Water, power and gas — who to ring
The right number for the right problem, in one place — and why we do not mirror live outage notices.
Who to ring, by what has stopped
| What stopped | Who | Number |
|---|---|---|
| Any emergency — fire, injury, gas smell | Emergency services | 112 |
| Gas leak or gas smell | Distrigaz Sud Rețele | 928 |
| Electricity gone | Distribuție Energie Oltenia | 929 |
| Water gone, or a burst in the street | Compania de Apă Oltenia | 0251 422 014 |
| Street lighting, potholes, rubbish | Primăria Craiova, Telefonul Cetățeanului | see the city hall section |
A gas smell is a 112 call, not a customer-service call. Leave, then ring.
Why this page does not list current outages
Because we would get it wrong.
Water and power interruptions are announced by the companies themselves — on their own sites and social channels — and they change by the hour. If we mirrored them, the copy here would lag behind the real notice, and somebody would plan a day around an outage that had already been fixed or miss one that had just been declared. A stale outage notice is worse than no outage notice.
So this page does the part that does not go stale: the right number, for the right problem, in one place. For a live notice, go to the company.
Before you ring about water
Two things worth checking first, because they account for a large share of calls:
- Is it the whole building or just you? Ask a neighbour. A single flat without water is usually the building's own installation and the administrator's problem, not the utility's.
- Was there a planned interruption announced? Planned works are published in advance and are the most common cause of a supply cut that nobody expected.
After any interruption the water can run cloudy or discoloured for a while as the pipes refill. That is normal and the company's own advice is to let it run until it clears before drinking it.
Power cuts
Ring 929. Have the address and, if you can, the meter's serial number.
If the cut is only your flat and the rest of the block has power, the fault is probably inside your own installation or at your meter, and that is an electrician's job rather than the distributor's.
