Craiova neighbourhood
Brazda lui Novac
The big northern district, and the one real alternative to the centre if you are driving: three hotels, and somewhere to park.
What it is
A large 1970s–80s housing district north of the centre, named after the Roman-era earthwork that runs across Oltenia. It is residential and looks it — but it is also the one outer district with enough hotel beds to be a genuine option.
Hotel Europeca, Casa Micle and Hotel Rexton are all here. They are cheaper than the equivalent in the centre, they have parking, and they are ten to fifteen minutes from Calea Unirii by car or one bus. If you have arrived with a car and intend to use it — for Târgu Jiu, Horezu, the Oltenia day trips — that calculation often comes out ahead of parking in the pedestrian core every evening.
Eating and drinking
Restaurant Mignon is the local reference point, Cofetaria Michelle the patisserie, and St. Nicholas Church the one listed sight — a neighbourhood church that holds a 4.8 rating from the people who actually use it.
Who it does not suit
Anyone without a car who wants to walk out of the hotel into the city. The walk to the centre is too long to be a pleasure and the bus is fine but is a bus. For a two-day trip on foot, stay central.

Frequently asked
What is worth seeing in Brazda lui Novac?
The best-known sights here are St. Nicholas Church. The full list, with opening hours and a map, is further up this page.
Where should I eat in Brazda lui Novac?
Among the best-rated restaurants in the area are Restaurant Mignon. The ratings come from Google and are refreshed periodically — they are not paid placements.
Is Brazda lui Novac a good area to stay in?
It depends what you want from it. The accommodation section above lists a few options in the area, and the write-up at the top of this page says plainly who it suits and who it does not. The map at the foot of the page is centred on Brazda lui Novac itself.
Where can I get a good coffee in Brazda lui Novac?
Start with Cofetaria Michelle. Craiova has a small but genuinely good specialty-coffee scene in the centre, and the classic cofetării (patisseries) are still the place for a cake — or papanași.
Where can I get a beer or a glass of wine in Brazda lui Novac?
Start with Miki's Pub. Romanian wine (Fetească Neagră, Fetească Albă, Tămâioasă) is poured by the glass in the good wine bars, and local craft beer has grown fast in recent years.

Straight-line distance from the centre of this area. Inside Craiova most of these are a walk or one bus; out in Oltenia the road is always a good deal longer than the line, so use the measured drive times on the Oltenia page instead.
