Where to stay in Craiova

Craiova is small enough that the only question worth asking is whether you want to walk to Calea Unirii or drive to it. Stay in the centre and you need no transport at all; stay outside it and you will save money and spend the difference on taxis.

60 places

Centre, and almost nothing else

The city's sights, restaurants, bars and the Christmas market are all within a fifteen-minute walk of Piața Mihai Viteazul. The case for staying anywhere else is price, and only price.

Ramada Plaza is the big central four-star and the default for business travel. Hotel Golden House and Prestige Boutique are the smaller central options, Hotel Royal and Europeca sit a little out from the core at lower rates.

When price moves

Craiova is cheap most of the year and briefly is not. Rates are lowest in January after the 3rd, February and August, when nobody is here. They rise sharply from 13 November, the day the Christmas market opens — about a fortnight before Sibiu's and Brașov's — and stay high to early January. If you are coming for the market, book before the opening date rather than after it.

The other spikes are the 1 December national holiday weekend and any home match at Ion Oblemenco that matters.

Practical

The station is at Piața Constantin Brâncuși, about twenty-five minutes' walk east of the centre or a short ride. The airport (CRA) is about eight kilometres east on Calea București — see getting here.

Tourist tax is charged per person per night and collected by the property, not included in the online rate.

Air conditioning is not optional in July and August. A 30 °C daily high in the plain with no breeze makes it the single feature worth filtering on — check it is actually in the room rather than in the lobby.
