What it costs

Craiova prices, with the date they were checked

Every figure below is in lei and carries the day it was checked and a link to whoever publishes it. There are not many, and that is deliberate: across Craiova and Oltenia almost nothing is published in a form anyone can cite, so rather than repeat numbers from aggregators that contradict each other, we publish what can be proved and say where it cannot.

European Central Bank reference rate, for the euro column. (12 October 2026).

The tourist tax

Accommodation in Craiova charges a tourist tax per person per night, collected by the property rather than included in the rate you booked online. We do not print the figure here because the city sets it by council decision and we have no dated source for the current one — ask when you book, and expect it on the final bill.

Lei converter

Romania uses the leu (RON), not the euro. Here is what the lei prices on this site mean in your money — both ways.

This is the reference rate, not the rate you will get. Always pay in lei: when a card terminal or cash machine offers to charge you in euros or your own currency, decline — that dynamic currency conversion is set by the machine's operator and is the worst rate on offer.

Pay in lei, never in your own currency

When a card terminal or a cash machine offers to charge you in euros or your own currency, decline and pay in lei. That rate is set by the machine's operator and is consistently worse than your bank's. Over a few days of hotel, meals and tickets the difference adds up to more than anything on this page.

    Questions about prices

    Is Craiova expensive?

No. It is among the cheaper major Romanian cities to eat and sleep in, noticeably below Bucharest, Cluj or Brașov for an equivalent meal or room. The exception is the Christmas market period, when accommodation rises to its annual peak from 13 November.

What does it cost to see things in Craiova?

The three things worth travelling for are largely free: the Belle Époque centre is a walk, Romanescu Park has no ticket, and the Brâncuși ensemble at Târgu Jiu stands in public parks, open at any hour. The museums do charge, but they do not publish their tariffs in a form we can date — ring ahead. Checked on 23 September 2026.

How much is a bus ticket in Craiova?

We do not print a figure. RAT Craiova does not publish a tariff we can cite and date, and a wrong ticket price is worse than none. Buy on board or at a kiosk. In practice it matters little to a visitor: the centre is crossed in fifteen minutes on foot.

Why are there so few prices on this page?

Because we will not publish a figure we cannot date and source. Across Oltenia most operators publish nothing citable: the show cave at Baia de Fier posts its timetable as a scanned image, and Hurezi monastery's site carries a placeholder email. Aggregators quote the cave at both 20 lei and 5 lei. An honest gap beats a confident wrong number.

What does the Christmas market cost?

Entry is free, including the New Year's Eve party held inside it. You pay only for food, drink, rides and what you buy. Stall prices are set by individual traders and are not published in advance by the city.
