Calea București

Craiova neighbourhood

Calea București

The eastern artery to the airport: two good guesthouses, parking, and twelve minutes from the centre.

The useful outer district

Calea București runs east out of the city towards Craiova airport, eight kilometres along it, and that geography is the whole argument for staying here. Bruxelles Guesthouse and Pensiunea Magnolia both hold a 4.8, both have parking, and both are about twelve minutes from Calea Unirii — which for an early Wizz Air departure, or a trip built around driving into Oltenia, beats the pedestrian centre on every count except the walk.

Eating

Hanul Andriței is the roadside Romanian classic on this side of town, and Panoramic Vienna Ballroom the event venue that also serves ordinary dinners. Parcul „Hanul doctorului" is the green space, and it is better than a district park has any right to be — over a thousand reviews.

Who it does not suit

Anyone arriving by train, since this is the wrong side of the city for the station, and anyone whose trip is the centre on foot. For that, stay central.

Straight-line distance from the centre of this area. Inside Craiova most of these are a walk or one bus; out in Oltenia the road is always a good deal longer than the line, so use the measured drive times on the Oltenia page instead.
